I am using Fiber Optics Distributed Temperature Sensing technology to look at high spatial and temporal resolution stream temperature in a restored stream in Eastern Oregon to find areas of cool water inflow. Water temperatures in the river often exceed the survivable range for salmon in the summer, so there have been many efforts to mitigate temperatures through restoration efforts. I am also developing a stream temperature model that can be used to strategically manage restoration efforts for temperature.

Title: Exploring the road safety impacts of platforms and easy access stops in Melbourne.
I investigated two new styles of light rail/streetcar/tram stops constructed recently in Melbourne, Australia. While the new stops were developed to meet disability access legislative requirements, there was a significant improvement to road safety for passengers, pedestrians and motorists. You are less likely to be run over by a passing car at one of the new stops!

New product design

Title: “Managing the Dynamics of Product Development Process for New Product development”
My PhD dissertation “Managing DPDP for NPD” focuses on developing a framework for the management of NPD processes (iterative processes with process schemes that changes according to the evolving product knowledge). The framework incorporates the Design Structure Matrix (DSM) method and Petri nets. The DSM method was used for modeling the product knowledge, and then using reordering algorithms for planning the design processes. Petri nets formalization concepts were used for formally proving process structure properties that result from DSM-based plans, and allow implementation of the on-going process changes during the design process at run-time.
